Evangelism Ministry

In Matthew 28:19, the Lord gave his disciples his last commandment: “Go and make disciples of all nations”.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we need to remember that the Lord calls us all to be witnesses to others; it is his first and last commandment and not a request.

We now know from the Purpose Driven Life that we are made for a Mission. Many of us now have a clearer vision and understanding of our life purpose, encompassing the five-fold purposes of God together with our church vision and mission. Evangelism is clearly a main purpose we must constantly keep in mind, individually and corporately as a church.

Praise God for his faithfulness. We are now into our 9th semester with 7 trainees. EE has come a long way since we first started with 4 trainees in 2001. With the Lord’s blessing, we now have 50 qualified EE graduates as well as 4 qualified instructors trained through the EE Leadership Clinics.

The 13-week classes were fun and challenging, especially during the on-the-job training (OJT). During OJT, trainees call on church visitors, friends or colleagues; go knocking door to door; visit hospitals; drop in at local malls…filled with a desire to learn from the trainer how to share the good news. Many of the trainers and trainees were richly blessed through these sessions. Many of them were surprised at how the Holy Spirit can use them to lead people to Christ through a simple presentation of the gospel.

Our EE graduates have also been involved in outreach and training programs as counsellors. Last year, we were honoured to partner with Missionfest serving as EE counsellors at the Metro Convention Centre. We train new trainees over two semesters which is in the fall and winter.

For those who have the potential and are willing to be committed to teaching the course, we send them to EE Leadership Clinics so they can become qualified EE teachers. Many of our graduates have expressed how exciting and fulfilling it is to be able to lead someone to Christ, as many of them have never done that before.

In 2003, we were privileged to co-host with EE Canada and WPC two leadership clinics, held in March and November, for Pastors and church leaders so they can take this training back to their churches. We had a total of 25 Pastors and leaders coming from different parts of Canada. Many of them are now equipping their people today.

I was very encouraged by Pastor Alvin’s vision of “Bringing the church to the people”. In my own quiet time, the Lord spoke to me from the book of Romans 10:14-15a:

"But how are men to call upon Him on whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? And how can men preach unless they are sent?"

So how can we save lost souls if we do not bring the church to the people by going out and meet them?

The qualified teachers for Evangelism training are:
  • Pastor Alvin Koh
  • Joseph Wee
  • Anita Wong
  • Hendrik Anthonio
