Being a Spring of Life

Being a Spring of Life

Last week at intercession (prayer and worship, every Wednesday night) the group that was together was doing listening prayer for the church. The prayers that we shared were a great encouragement and reminder of who we are as a church family, and how every person in the church is called to follow God. Here are some of the highlights from the prayers that night:

“- Life-Spring should live up to its name to be a spring of life for those who have lost hope. Our call is to bring hope to the hopeless and healing to the sick, like in Isaiah 61. We’re to be like a river flowing through the valley in Isaiah 41, bringing life to barren places.

  • We’re to continue to be a blessing to people. Think of all the blessings that God has given to us, and give thanks! This is the same way we can be a blessing to those around us.
  • We’re called to rise up and shine, like the dawn breaking. We’re to be victors, not victims, gathering around the Lord as our protector.”

These are definitely some big words! Being a spring of life for those who have lost hope, healing the sick, and rising and shining are all huge words for our church family. But something that God was also saying was that these kinds of things don’t just happen by themselves. We can’t expect to do nothing and just become a spring of life and hope to the hopeless overnight. These things require us to grow in maturity. Here are some words from intercession that night about that:

“- Let’s not be lukewarm like the church in Laodicea in Revelation 3, let’s be “hot”–seeking God and obeying him with whatever he’s called us to. We need to ask God to refine us from the inside out.

  • All the big things for the church said above will come in time. But for wherever we find ourselves today, we need to focus on what God is doing at the moment. There’s a time for everything, and right now we need to focus on the little things God has asked us to do today.”

All that God has called us to will happen, but it will only happen when we set our eyes on God today. So what is God asking you to focus on today, in your relationship with Him? We grow in faith for the things God has for us tomorrow, through committing to obeying God today.
