Last week during intercession, Peggy Leung led us in a time of prayer – asking God how we respond to social injustice. It seems like everyday there is a new scandal and something that is unjust. Whether it was the Black Lives Matter (BLM), Anti-Asian Hate (AAH), Systemic Abuse (SA), etc. – everyday there is something to be concerned about.
As we sought the Lord on how to respond to these situations the Lord began to challenge me. He poked at my heart, asking me if I GENUINELY cared, or if each movement was simply a fad where I read, I care, I pray, I forget. Did I genuinely care about BLM, AAH, SA, etc. Without a doubt, these things were on my mind and in my prayers – but was it the genuine care God was asking of me?
God then reminded me of our dear friend, David Headlam. Two months ago, on March 7, David passed away. I remember standing in my kitchen and being lost in the moment. My heart was heavy, my tears were real, and my prayers were earnest. And God whispered – that is genuine care. Get to this place in all things.
I believe God is challenging me and the church family. No matter where we are in our walk with Christ – we need to move closer towards being Genuine. Start with those closest to you, move to those around you, grow to the city/nation/world that we live in. Ask God to take our feeble attempts of care and turn them into Genuine care.
Holy Spirit, in all things – we so desperately need you. Even in trying to do good works, it is only by your Holy Spirit does it make a difference. We pray that we would move from wherever we are to a place a little bit closer to where you want us to be. Have you way Lord. Amen.
