In the Details

Sometimes I can get a little caught up in the details…

For example, if I have a major project ahead of me, sometimes I find myself focused on small things like the font or formatting rather than sorting out what the substance of the project will be. Or if I have a big event coming up, rather than figuring out how I will get to the event or how I will get back home, I’ll spend hours figuring out what to wear and all of the little accessories that will go along with it.

Of course, attention to detail is not a bad thing, in many cases it’s actually quite important!

If nobody thought about the details, outfits worn to picnics would get very messy because nobody packed the napkins or the wipes.

Although this could quickly become another devotional about how uniquely each of us have been created, I’d like to instead share about how God also cares about the details!

(God is also very good at considering the big picture.)

Because I enjoy paying attention to small details, a lot of seemingly simple or mundane things in life leave me completely mind boggled. It also means that I often see God provide in the most bizarre and specific ways!

Many parts of the Psalms and other Old Testament Scriptures speak of God’s care for his people and the ways we are not only expected to trust in the Lord with all of our hearts, but also why we can do so with confidence!

The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.
Though they stumble, they will never fall,
for the Lord holds them by the hand.

psalm 37:23-24

Even Jesus spoke directly about the care and attention to detail that our Heavenly Father has for all of his children: “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:7)

So, as you move forward with the rest of this week, whether you’re enjoying the final weeks of vacation and are finally able to catch a break or you’re busier than ever and working extra hard to finish what has been set before you, take heart!

The details of each day are not only important, but they are being cared for by a loving Father who is eager to give you good gifts! Maybe those good gifts are super specific details that nobody other than you could ever notice, or maybe they are big-picture breakthrough gifts!

Whatever the case may be, I’m hopeful that all of us will be encountering God in our daily lives in new and exciting, peace-bringing and hope-renewing kinds of ways.

Be blessed Lifespring!
