The Surgery Room

After listening to Gabe’s message last week, I was reminded of all the benefits that I have as a Canadian citizen. Some in which I didn’t even think were benefits until I realized that other countries would charge you for those same benefits in their country.

I couldn’t help but think about what were some of the Kingdom’s benefits of being a Christian and a Son of the living God? What were some things that I was missing out on because I didn’t know I had access to it?

One of the things that came to my mind was the healing power of Jesus. If you thought free health care was sweet, wait until you try the healing power of Jesus. I’m talking full access, 24/7 care, no lines, no waiting room, no forms to fill, just you and the doctor (Jesus).

If that’s not enough to get you to go see the doctor then perhaps you need to ask yourself:

“What’s stopping you from getting the healing you need?”

Perhaps Isaiah 6:9-10 (NLT) can give us some insight:

Isaiah 6:9-10

New Living Translation

9 And he said, “Yes, go, and say to this people,

‘Listen carefully, but do not understand.

    Watch closely, but learn nothing.’

10 Harden the hearts of these people.

Plug their ears and shut their eyes.

That way, they will not see with their eyes,

    nor hear with their ears,

nor understand with their hearts

and turn to me for healing.”[a]

The Greek version reads:

And he said, “Go and say to this people, / ‘When you hear what I say, you will not understand. / When you see what I do, you will not comprehend.’ / For the hearts of these people are hardened, / and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes— / so their eyes cannot see, / and their ears cannot hear, / and their hearts cannot understand, / and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.”

Maybe one of the reasons why we refuse to allow God to heal us is because our hearts are hardened. When our hearts are hardened we cannot hear with our ears what God is saying, we cannot see with our eyes what God is doing, so in turn our hearts cannot understand, which makes us not turn to God when we need to.

The sad reality is that some of us would rather limp through life with our wounds than go through the pain of surgery.

My invitation to you today is not an easy one but a necessary one that you have full access to.

If you are weak and in extreme pain, I want to invite you into the surgery room. It’s a place where only family is invited beyond a certain point and only a very few people care to venture. Be warned, it is also a place of rawness and vulnerability which is not for the faint hearted, but it is necessary for the healing process.

I’ll be honest with you, it’s not going to be easy. To me, surgery is simply going through the necessary pain to bring you the healing you need. If you think about it, a doctor has to open you up to get to what’s underneath. That’s not a painless process. Yes, most people are sedated during surgery but when they wake up they definitely feel the pain and the effects of the surgery.

Before you make your decision, I want to ask you something:

Is your pain worth holding on to or do you think it’s time to let it go?

Do some listening prayer and see where God is leading you. Perhaps it might be in the surgery room where healing takes place.

My prayer for you is that you would walk in the fullness God has for you, every single day of your life and receive the healing power of Jesus when you need it.
