Another great privilege to hear from one of our own. Mae-Tuin Seto, who has served and been a blessing to the Lifespring family since the dawn of time, continues to serve as the Secretary on the Board of Directors, a Kidz Harbour Shepherd, and overall mom in the house.
I titled this devotion, “#BlameDave”, not because it has anything to do with what I learned, but rather because it was funny.
As Mae-Tuin was sharing and teaching us of strong and courageous women in the Scripture, she shared something that I thought was for the entire church family:
She shared how Ruth inspires her to be loyal, just as Ruth was loyal during circumstances where she could have easily walked away. Can we be a loyal follower of the King?
She shared how Esther saved the Jews with her leadership. She was challenged with the words: “you have come to your royal position for such a time as this”. Do we realize and recognize that in our current position (as a church family and as individuals), we are in these position for such a time as this? Life can get busy – but we are truly blessed to be a blessing. Can we see beyond our circumstances to see what God sees?
She shared that Mary was a great listener. In the story of Mary and Martha, Martha showed great hospitality and generosity – were these bad things? Absolutely not! But these good things were not the right things at the right time. Jesus taught Mary and Martha that at that point, only one thing is needed… to listen to Jesus. Life not only CAN get busy… life IS busy. But oftentimes we forget the important things in life. The first thing to go in busyness is usually time with the King. But only one thing is needed… to listen to Jesus. Can we be like Mary? One who valued listening to Jesus even more so than good things?
In the midst of all these gems from Mae-Tuin, she closed with a simple challenge – learn and grow in all areas.
We all have strong areas and we all have weak areas. Grow in your strengths! Grow in your weaknesses! But just grow! I love the Lifespring family, I love my wife, I love my 4 kids, I love my home, I love my life… But I never want to stop growing, I never want to stop doing and being where God is. Pray for a Holy Discontent, take on the challenge that Mae-Tuin brings to us – learn and grow in all areas.
Change can be scary, but being where God is, is always the best place.
