From There to Here

From There to Here

I dunno about you, but I have been finding SO much comfort this past week knowing that lots of people are right dab-smack in the middle of transitional seasons as well!

During our service on Sunday, the theme of transitions kept coming up. It was very encouraging just to hear other people acknowledging/addressing similar times in their own lives!!

As a church we’ve had loads of changes take place in our Board of Directors, in our Deacons, in our LifeGroups and even at KidzHarbour! And while so many of our teams and structures shift around and begin to look a little different, it’s not for nothing.

The church leadership isn’t changing just because we thought mixing things up would be fun… because, trust me, there’s way more work involved in this than keeping things the way they’ve always been.

As leaders were encouraged to pray about whether they would be continuing on in leadership, many people sensed God leading them away from their previous positions. Some of those folks have taken on new leadership roles at Lifespring, others are entering into very busy personal seasons, and some are being challenged to learn how to rest.

When we follow the Lord’s leading out of one role/place/relationship/circumstance, we can be absolutely positive that God will walk with us into whatever comes next.

As we’ve been rearranging our leadership teams and scrambling our LifeGroups, bringing in new curriculums and book studies, we’re making space for God to do a new thing.

Perhaps the most challenging part of the “new things” and “seasons of transition” is that we actually don’t know what exactly that means.

Even when we have a feeling or a sense of why God might be taking us in a certain direction, the only way we’re ever going to know for sure, is to keep moving forward to with God.

We often talk of moving from “here to there”. It’s always from the place we are to whatever is next. I’d like to challenge us to try switching things up a little and consider the movement from “there to here”.

Because the reality is, as we enter a new season or a new chapter of our lives, chances are good we’ll be there for a while. And it’s not always helpful to be thinking about what’s next when we’ve barely arrived to our now.

I’m hopeful that each of us, no matter what kind of season(s) we may find ourselves in at the moment, will find hope and peace in our present. That we won’t try to soothe our anxious minds with dreams of moving from here to there… but that we would, instead, try to be intentional as we move from there to here.

God is good and God is doing new things all around us!

May we press in and pay close attention to these times of transition and take comfort knowing that we are SO not the only ones going through loads of changes all at once.
