Comparison is a killer.
Have you ever wondered whether you have enough confirmation from the Lord when it comes to a decision? In my experience, I get mental “nudges” from the Lord. Subtle, but for the most part quite effective. Sometimes, however, it feels almost inadequate compared to the other ways God communicates to us.
I’ve heard quite a few stories of how people received confirmation from the Lord from dreams, visions, the audible voice of God, etc, and sometimes it feels like I don’t have a very compelling reasons for making a decision as I should. As silly as it sounds, I sometimes think that if it’s really God, I’d get a more dramatic confirmation.
This brought the Pharisees and Sadducees to mind. They kept asking Jesus to show them more signs to prove that He was the Messiah.
“The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven. 2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”
– Matthew 16:1-3
How we interpret or perceive an event does a lot. The Pharisees and Sadducees wanted a sign from heaven from Jesus. It wasn’t enough that Jesus already performed many healings and feeding of people in the past few chapters.
The Pharisees and Sadducees looked for signs and wonders, but what they failed to see was the wonder that was right in front of them, which was Jesus.
You may not receive earth shaking confirmation of what God wants you to do, and that’s perfectly fine. The fact that you can hear/sense/feel God’s “voice”, even if it’s just a nudge, is in itself a wonder.
May we continue to trust God as He speaks to us, no matter how He speaks.
