Nothing convinces me of how much I need God more than when I am overwhelmed. During exam season, I was definitely feeling the strain, as I had a lot to do between school and work, and I had no idea how I’d get everything done on time.
One night, I couldn’t sleep, and I started thinking about my impending to-do list. With the way my brain was mapping out everything at 2 in the morning, it felt impossible to get everything done. I felt like I was breaking and splitting at the seams just thinking about it!
In that moment, the only thing I could do was pray, “Lord, please hold me together. Just hold me together, because I can’t do it on my own.”
That prayer became the only thing I was praying during the exam period. I won’t say that praying that prayer made everything instantly better and solved all my problems, because that’s not what happened. I still had to study, juggle tasks, and cope with being sick in the middle of it all.
However, giving God my worries and my to-do list and consciously relying on God to help me through exams was very freeing. It wasn’t just up to me or my own strength/abilties anymore, but on God, and the fact that God was holding and supporting me helped get me through a very stressful time.
We may not all have exams to get through, but I’m sure that a lot of us have a Christmas season filled with dinners, outings, events, and even sickness for some, which can feel quite hectic and draining. I encourage you to take a quick moment to pray. We may struggle to find the words to pray, but just asking God to hold us together through it all can make a world of difference.
