One of the things Uncle Perry touched on when he spoke last Sunday was the importance of reading and remaining in God’s Word.
“Jesus answered, ‘It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
– Matthew 4:4/Deuteronomy 8:3.
In this day and age, there are a million ways to consume the Word of God, whether that’s through audio Bible recordings, sermon recordings, devotions, podcasts, or audiobooks. While they can be beneficial and convenient, nothing can replace what God says in His Word. It can be difficult to find time to sit down and read, especially when there are a million things happening in our own lives, but part of what it means to remain connected to the vine, and thus bear fruit, is to remain connected to God’s Word.
This is also in line with one of our memory verses, Romans 12:2:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
The only way we will be able to test and approve what God’s will is to be connected to the vine and to know His Word. If we naturally gravitate towards biblically based media over reading his actual Word, why not create a new habit? Set goals and start small; one or two verses to read and meditate on, and as God begins to work within your life, increase from there.
