Shalom

It seems as though whenever you turn on the tv or browse the internet for the latest news, the world seems to be in complete chaos. Whether its uncertainty in the economy, wars, rumors of wars, conflicts, frequency and intensity of natural disasters (hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, and tsunamis), the world seems to be in complete chaos and full of troubles.

As I was seeking the Lord about this, I felt led to Matthew 16:33:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

It’s comforting to know that in the midst of all the chaos and troubles in this world, Jesus has already overcome it all.  Not only that, but in Him we may have peace.

The Hebrew word for peace is Shalom. In Hebrew, Shalom has a deeper meaning than just peace. It represents completeness, wholeness, and well-being. In Jewish traditions, you actually greet one another or say goodbye by saying “Shalom” (Peace) or “Shalom Aleichem” (Peace be upon you). So, you literally are blessing one another each day. Imagine saying, “may you be full of peace, wholeness, completeness and well-being” to each person you meet and say goodbye to on a daily basis? What a blessing this is! I find it so interesting that they would greet one another this way as opposed to just saying a simple hello or goodbye.  It almost feels as if God intentionally wanted to remind His people each day that in this troubled world, take heart, you may have peace.  But this peace can only be found in Him.

I pray that whatever troubles you may go through in this world that you turn to Him, you seek Him, you put your trust in Him, you remain in Him and do what He says. Because it’s only in Him that you may find peace.  Amen!

“But take heart! I have overcome the world” and in Him you may have peace (Shalom).  Shalom Aleichem (Peace be upon you) LifeSpring family!
