Are you “seated” at Jesus’ table?

Are you “seated” at Jesus’ table?

Dear LifeSpring Family,

Last week Dorothy and I spent 2 1/2 days at our P2C’s staff conference. We wanted to share with you what one speaker spoke about.

The speaker from our sister organization, CRU US, challenged us on how we are living out our lives for our Lord Jesus Christ. Heather Hollerman spoke on Ephesians 2:1-10 and Hebrews 10:11-14.

Ephesians 2:1-10 – ESV
2 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body[a] and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.[b] 4 But[c] God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

In verse 6, it says that God has raised us up with him (Jesus Christ) and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. This was a timely reminder of the truth that Dorothy and I are seated at the table with Christ Jesus. Every now and then, I ask God that I would be happier and more complete if He “seats” me at the table of:

  1. Appearance
  2. Affluence
  3. Achievement

Instead of seating me at Jesus’ table. But seating at Jesus’ table brings with it:

  1. Adore – the King and others
  2. Access – the King and His Kingdom
  3. Abide – in the King and His shalom peace.

Only at Jesus’ table will I be “seating” because, at all other tables, I will have to “stand”.
Hebrews 10:11-14 – ESV
11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ[a] had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

Our Lord Jesus Christ offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God. And now He invites all of us who believed in His finished work at the cross, to seat at His table. Or you can keep “standing” at the other tables that will bring temporary meaning and rewards to your life.
