Happy Canada Day!!!
Dear LifeSpring Family, Happy Canada Day!!! What a blessing to be born and/or live in this great country, Canada. As most of us are aware, Canada’s founding principles were based on the recognition of God over our land. In fact, Psalms 72:8 is inscribed on the Peace Tower of our Parliament Building in Ottawa. With the current high inflation rate, the war in Ukraine, and the turmoil of the recent statement from the U.S Supreme Court regarding Roe v Wade,…
More like the Second Adam
Dear LifeSpring Family, Hearing Pastor Gabriel preached to us on Father’s Day on Sunday and reading his devotions this past Monday, challenged me to be more like the Second Adam. Most of us are familiar with the story of the fall of the first Adam and his helpmate, Eve in Genesis chapter 3. From Genesis chapter 3, Dr. Robert Lewis reminded me of the lessons that I can learn from the first Adam’s approach/behavior to being a man, husband, and…
You Are Deeply Loved
Dear LifeSpring Family, A few months ago, I was at the autobody shop to get the side mirror on my car fixed. The shop came highly recommended. And it did not disappoint as I had a very good conversation with the owner, Jack. Jack like myself is an immigrant to Canada but unlike myself, he is not from Singapore but immigrated from Armenia. Soon our conversation turned into spiritual matters and how he believes that God has guided and continues…
My Latest Memory Verse
Dear LifeSpring Family, I wanted to share with you my latest memory verse in today’s devotions. It is a verse if not all, most of you have heard it before and some of you have even memorized it. The verse is 1 Chronicles 4:10 Wait for it…………… “Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from…
Jesus, my Bread of Life
Dear LifeSpring Family, As I was reading today’s Daily Bread (July 18th) devotions, I was reminded and challenged. Reminded of our practice of doing Holy Communion every Sunday. And challenged my reasons for celebrating Holy Communion together every Sunday. The scripture reading for today’s Daily Bread devotions was from John 6:25-35. 25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him “Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” 28 Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” 30 So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” 35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. As you read the holy scriptures, please do some listening prayer…
Christ Our Advocate
Dear LifeSpring Family, I have been trying to keep up with the young ones on the pastoral team in the area of scripture memory. It has not been an easy task. Dorothy has been my biggest and sadly, only cheerleader. She does not use Google calendar or for that matter, any written or electronic calendar. She remembers every appointment mentally in her head. So when I commented that I will be a good team player and memorize scripture along with…
Christ Our P.I.A.
Dear LifeSpring Family, “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:26 We thank our Lord Jesus Christ that while we wait expectantly for His return, we are reminded that He is our propitiator and actively interceding and advocating for us. While there is an overlap between an intercessor and an advocate, there is also a difference. In general terms, intercession means that a third party…
Be Ye Angry & Sin Not
Dear LifeSpring Family, “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath” Eph. 4:26 KJV Recently, I have been listening to Tim Keller’s podcast from his early days as the pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, New York. The podcast I was listening to was his preaching series on the book of Ephesians. I found that this particular sermon on the emotion of anger spoke to me and challenged my beliefs. Pastor Keller…
Shalom
Dear LifeSpring Family As mentioned before, Dorothy and I are participating in Power To Change’s fasting during this season of Lent. Today is day 21 of the fast and the reminder to us is the need to relax in the Lord. “So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Hebrews 4:9-10 ESV God wants you to enjoy what is called a “Sabbath rest,” which is taking time to step away from the daily schedule and have some down time with Him. Some people spend part of…
Lent
Dear LifeSpring Family, Dorothy and I are responding to P2C’s call to prayer and fasting for this 40 Days of Lent. I did not know that the 40 Days of Lent does not include Sundays. Below is the first Sunday of Lent devotions from CRU International. It’s Sunday — a day to rest. Did you know that ever since Jesus died and rose again, each Sunday is like a mini Easter? In addition to resting, like God commanded in the Old…
Who’s Side Are You On?
Dear LifeSpring Family, As I am writing this devotion, my thoughts wander to what is happening in Ottawa. To the residents of Ottawa and to the protestors in Ottawa. I am also reminded of the passage in Joshua 5:13-15 that Pastor Alvin shared with us in our weekly MissionGTA prayer meeting. 13 And then this, while Joshua was there near Jericho: He looked up and saw right in front of him a man standing, holding his drawn sword. Joshua stepped…
How Does One Keep The Fire Burning?
Dear LifeSpring Family, I was challenged by Jon Koh’s Sunday sermon and by Gabe’s devotional this past Monday. Looking out from the window of my home, I can feel the chill of winter and see the mounds of snow. My mind starts to drift with the understanding that time and tide wait for no one. Winter weather affords much time for reflection. How does one keep the fire burning? This Prayer of Sir Francis Drake is worth contemplating: Disturb us,…
