Listening Prayer Anyone?
Encouragement to Give Generously We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part…
Excelling in this act of grace – Generosity
“But as you excel in everything — in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you – see that you excel in this act of grace also. – 2 Corinthians 8:7 ESV The “act of grace” that the Apostle Paul was referring to in this verse is the grace to give generously. Giving was definitely is not “second nature” to me. Giving money away for sure is not even “third nature” to me. And lets not even talk about “giving generously”. Over the years as I grew my “stone of the past” in my relationship with God, I was able to slay the “giant” of stinginess with…
My Stone of Priority
1 Samuel 17:45 (ESV) “Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you havedefied.” I know well enough that following our Lord Jesus Christ changes my priorities. That calling myself Christian changes what I value. And as I journey with our Lord Jesus Christ over all these…
Perfecting of Our Faith
Hebrews 12:5-6 5 And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him.6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” As we mature in our relationship with God, it will involve discipline. And discipline oftentimes involves discomfort and pain. Allow me to encourage you that our heavenly Father sees us as His sons and daughters.…
Are you “seated” at Jesus’ table?
Dear LifeSpring Family, Last week Dorothy and I spent 2 1/2 days at our P2C’s staff conference. We wanted to share with you what one speaker spoke about. The speaker from our sister organization, CRU US, challenged us on how we are living out our lives for our Lord Jesus Christ. Heather Hollerman spoke on Ephesians 2:1-10 and Hebrews 10:11-14. Ephesians 2:1-10 – ESV2 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following…
Disruptive Love
Dear LifeSpring Family, This week, Dorothy and I will be “attending” Power To Change’s Staff Conference. I say “attending” because it is obviously over Zoom and not face to face as we normally do for our Staff Conferences. Dorothy and I will be “attending” our Staff Conference over Zoom for two and a half days. We are looking forward to the experience of learning and fellowshipping with fellow staff and many friends over the virtual world. I wanted to share…
A Religion Of The Heart
Dear LifeSpring Family, I wanted to share with you my devotions on July 2 from The Songs of Jesus by Timothy Keller. Please read Psalm 78:1-8 Psalm 78A maskil[a] of Asaph.1 My people, hear my teaching;listen to the words of my mouth.2 I will open my mouth with a parable;I will utter hidden things, things from of old—3 things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us.4 We will not hide them from their descendants;we will tell the…
Always in His Presence
Dear LifeSpring Family, During these times, we need His presence. As I am reading Gary Thomas’ book, Sacred Pathways, I am reminded that there are different pathways that we each practice to stay in the presence of God. According to Gary Thomas on page 18 of his book, “As I read the classics of the Christian faith and shared my journey with others, I discovered various ways in which people find intimacy with God: by studying church history or theology,…
Pure Hearts & Clean Hands
Dear Brothers and Sisters from Life-Spring, So much has changed in the past months and weeks. From Covid-19 to the death of George Floyd, these ongoing events have unsettled me. It seems that chaos is the order of the day. Although I rarely face racism on a regular basis, the death of George Floyd has caused me to search my heart. If not for my own benefit, then for the benefit of my children and grandchildren. To allow Holy Spirit to shine…
Maturity is All About the Gospel
As we prepare for this Sunday’s Holy Communion, allow me to share what God reminded me recently. In his book, The Prodigal God on pages 127, 128, and 129, Timothy Keller shared the following. “A meal fuels growth through nourishment. The Lord’s Supper, also called Communion or the Eucharist, represents ongoing growth in God’s grace. In order to survive and grow, individuals must eat and drink regularly. That’s what we must do with the gospel of the grace of God. We…
Psalm 34
Dear LifeSpring, I was saying my evening prayers which included the verses below from Psalm 34. I found it to be very reassuring as Dorothy and I continue to pray for our children and especially, our grandchildren living outside of Canada. While we are far away from them, God is so close to them. When life circumstances do not allow us to be close to our family, take comfort that God is ever-present in all our lives. Psalm 34:15-22 New International Version (NIV) 15 The…
