Devotions (Page 30)

What is the Father’s love?

The word “Father” (Abba) in Hebrew is derived from the words source and sustainer. God is referred to as Father over 150 times in the Bible! When God created Adam & Eve, God became the source of Adam & Eve. He built them and gave them life. In order to sustain them he created an atmosphere or environment in which His creation could flourish and thrive. He created and placed both Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden – the garden…

Yield

As you may or may not have heard, I, Laura Puiras, have finally obtained my G1 driver’s license!! Whilst that fact has the potential to lead all of us into different forms of prayer and devotion (praise and thanksgiving, fear and trembling, etc.) we’re just going to use it today as a launching pad… The G1 driver’s test is simply a written test that ensures a person knows about the rules of the road, can use critical thinking and simple…

Goodness of God

This past Sunday as the mother & son combination shared (Lena & Andrew), it was such a joy to hear and see faith in the family. As Lena shared her journey of faith that God is good in the midst of great challenges – it takes great faith to hang on to God. Lena shared that she has a prodigal son (that many of us know and love) that is far from God – but a son that is still…

He’s in the Boat!

When I went on vacation with my wife, we had the opportunity to do some hiking. Hiking always sounds fun until you actually start hiking. If it’s a significant hike then slowly but surely fatigue will kick in and the sun will switch from a friend to a foe in a matter of minutes and the idea of hiking will lose its appeal when the air gets thinner and thinner and drier and drier the higher you go up, not…

Faith & Grace

Faith and Grace always go together “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:1-2) Grace in Christianity can be generally defined as “God’s unmerited favour towards the unworthy” or “God’s benevolence on the undeserving”. One of Merriam Webster dictionary list defined it…

Same God

I won’t lie, this devo was inspired by a song. So if you’re thinking of an Elevation song called, “Same God”… you’re very right to do so! The first time I heard it I was actually a little annoyed by it … it was too wordy and hard to follow and why is it so long?! But, as the Lord often does, the Spirit of God began to shift around and soften my perspective; showing me instead how this song…

Memorize & Hear God

We had another privilege of hearing from Pastor Perry yesterday. As Perry was sharing, I couldn’t help but notice 2 important details: As a grandfather, he is amazingly FIT! As a grandfather, he continues to wholeheartedly love God and pursues Him Perry & Catherine have 2 sons and somewhere around 13 grandchildren… They know and love Jesus and continue to be in love with God and with one another. They are a couple that we respect greatly. They are a…

“Ignite” for Jesus

Dear LifeSpring Family By the time you are reading this devotional, we will have landed in Abbotsford International Airport, God willing.  Dorothy and I are on our way to Power To Change’s Staff Conference. This will be the first time in about 4 years since we are together as staff of Power To Change. We are looking forward to reconnecting to over 500 fellow missionaries from all over Canada and some from around the world.  I have included a picture of the…

Shifting the Weight II

A couple months ago I wrote an article called “Shifting the Weight” for Love is Moving, a ministry of The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) that publishes articles digitally as well as in print three times a year. I’ve written for them a few times before but hadn’t written an article in quite some time. I had been talking with a friend back in March about some of my experiences going to the gym and about some of the deeper…

Mezuzah

We had the honour of having Kar Peng, deacon at Lifespring, share his testimony of how God saved him, encountered him, and released him to be a blessing. As Kar Peng was sharing, I felt God wanted to encourage this family that there is much yet to come. Like Kar, many of us have had encounters with God. His real, tangible, and overwhelming presence has swept over us and God has truly saved and encountered us. Yet sometimes the encounters…

Who Helps You?

Dear LifeSpring Family, It is good to be home after 3 weeks of traveling on missions in Thailand and Singapore. Of course, international travel these days poses unique challenges, and flying out of and back to Pearson International Airport with all its recent challenges requires faith. Faith that your flight does not get canceled and/or your luggage ends up in a different airport in the world.   The faith that Dorothy and I have is encouraged by the scripture that the pastoral…
