I used to hate change. However, over the last 10 months, I’ve gotten more reconciled to it, as starting my internship involved a myriad of changes happening to me. I become the youngest in the room, got put into a variety of leadership positions, and started writing devotions, to name a few of them.
Change shakes up our comfort zone and reveals areas that we need to grow in. If we have no change, we become comfortable and can become stagnant. It’s really easy to cover up our deficiencies in routine and rely less on God. Without challenge, we do not see our limitations and need for God, and therefore have very little opportunity for growth.
Change is probably the only constant in life. It is inevitable. Growth, however, is intentional. We can complain, avoid, or adapt to the change we encounter in life, or we can use the change as a catalyst to start growing in a particular area. For example, I wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about any of the changes that came with my internship, but all these changes provided opportunities for me to grow in leadership and prayer. Through prayer, learning, application, and practice, and with the support of the people in our lives, we can all slowly grow through and because of the change we face.
