God’s Faithfulness

Numbers 23:19
19 God is not human, that he should lie,
    not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
    Does he promise and not fulfill?

Last week I was greatly encouraged by a powerful testimony from Nicaragua. It shows how God orchestrated a whole container of medical supplies way back in 2015, before COVID-19 appeared on the scene, to meet the escalating medical need in March 2020!  Wow, how cool is that?

Last Thursday, while heading east on the 401 to collect face masks for distribution in Mississauga, my car suddenly went out of control as I maneuvered a bend. I was shocked and could be traumatized. Fortunately, there was no car around me. I could sense the hand of the Lord upon me and angels steering my car back to course. It was a close call, but my heart was full of praise and thanksgiving as I drove on.  My heart was so touched that I began to sing and meditate on God’s faithfulness. 

Numbers 23:19 flashed through my mind. I like this verse as it establishes the truth that God does not lie and will not change His mind concerning His promises/prophecies. Whatever He has promised, He will do. 

God also directed me to Revelations 19:11 – “I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True.” – His name is “Faithful!”

We have learned that God’s names denote His nature and character. To be faithful is – being “constant, loyal, imply qualities of stability, dependability, and devotion.” (Online Biblical definition) Knowing and experiencing God’s faithfulness helps us to trust in Him. At this time, it also answers the question – How do I know I could pull through this crisis? 

1. We can depend on God’s faithfulness 

Please note the emphasis is on His faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23 – Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

1 Thessalonians 5:23, 24 – May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 – But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

2 Timothy 2:11-13 – This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. 12 If we endure, we shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us.13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.

2. God knows our frailty

Psalm 103:13-14 – As a father pities His children, So the Lord pities those who fear Him.
14 For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.

1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. – Because He knows my limitation, He will not allow me to be tested beyond my strength.

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. – Because He knows my imperfection, although I falter and sin, He will forgive me and give me a 2nd chance if I acknowledge and confess my sins. He is willing to give me endless 2nd chances. Not sure? Haven’t you heard? His mercy endures forever! (Psalm 118:1-4, Psalm 136)

3. God has an awesome track record

The following extract from cbn.com (https://www1.cbn.com/biblestudy/biblical-prophecies-fulfilled-by-jesus) will give you a glimpse of how precise the prophecies of God were being fulfilled. What He promised/prophesied would definitely come to pass. 

“The Old Testament, written hundreds of years before Jesus’ birth, contains over 300 prophecies that Jesus fulfilled through His life, death and resurrection.
Mathematically speaking, the odds of anyone fulfilling this amount of prophecy are staggering. Mathematicians put it this way:
1 person fulfilling 8 prophecies: 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000
1 person fulfilling 48 prophecies: 1 chance in 10 to the 157th power
1 person fulfilling 300+ prophecies: Only Jesus!”

Prayer: Thank you Lord that You are faithful, and will be faithful to the end! Thank You for understanding and helping me in my limitation and imperfection. I trust that as I depend on You, You will give me the faith and strength to endure, to pull through this crisis; even to be more than a conqueror! In Jesus’ name, amen.
