God’s Presence at Home

God’s Presence at Home

We’ve been talking about making our homes into a place of God’s presence, and I thought to share a short testimony for this update.

A few days ago I was in the kitchen washing a load of dishes. I sometimes like to play music when I’m in the kitchen, and this time, worship music was playing. In remembering that we talked about prayer and God’s presence a few weeks ago, I felt a tug on my heart to pray, even while I was washing the dishes. I had heard about one of our partner churches that was struggling during this COVID crisis, and felt God leading me to pray for them.

Nothing crazy happened while I was praying. What was a little unexpected though was how close I felt to God at that moment, and how much it actually lifted my spirit to pray. In prayer, I felt like I was lifted and encouraged. God was definitely present in the prayer, even over the kitchen sink!

Things have changed for all of us, in big and small ways. It can be difficult right now to connect with God in the ways we’re used to, whether through Sunday worship, blocks of alone time with God, receiving ministry, etc. But I believe God is still creating opportunities, and tugging at our hearts, to invite Him in to our lives. For me it was over the kitchen sink, but if we pay attention, I think we can all find moments when God is trying to get our attention.

In Colossians 4:5 Paul encourages the church to “make the most of every opportunity.” Paul was talking about evangelism here, but I think the same thinking applies to God. Sometimes all we need to do is pay more attention to the opportunities God is bringing up in our lives, and invite Him in. We may actually find God in the most mundane and regular tasks, but maybe this is where God wants to meet us today!
