“It’s not WHAT you know, it’s WHO you know.”
This should be the mission statement for the Christian journey.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in situations where I had no idea what to do but God spoke to me and what He said was exactly what was needed.
I’m sure you’ve heard of this quote in the context of employment, where knowing the right people was more advantageous than knowing the right things to say. Sometimes knowing the right people can even make up for your inadequacies and/or competence when applying for a job.
I was a job coach that bombed my interview. How is that possible? Well besides the fact that they were desperate for people to fill a summer position, I knew someone on the inside. If I was only hired based on what I knew and how well my interview went, I’m pretty sure I would not have gotten the job. It was the person I knew who vouched for me and convinced the employer to hire me.
I learned a lot from that summer job and the learning curve was steep for good reason. It was a great experience and I’m glad I got hired but I’d be foolish to think that I got it on my own. In my case, it’s not what I knew that helped me get the job, it was who I knew.
I’d like to suggest to you that you don’t necessarily need to know everything when it comes to walking the Christian journey. I would even extend that statement to say that you don’t necessarily need to know everything to live your life. In fact, who you know may be more important than what you know, especially if who you know is God.
Who better to guide you through life than the one who created it. Who better to open doors for you than the miracle worker. Who better to vouch for you than the one who created you.
I can’t think of a better reference than God. Now I wouldn’t recommend you putting God down as one of your references as that would be a bold move. I mean, like, what number would you even put down (777) 777-7777??? Trust me I know what I’m talking about. After all, I was a job coach for a summer.
