Dear LifeSpring Family,
I wanted to share with you my latest memory verse in today’s devotions. It is a verse if not all, most of you have heard it before and some of you have even memorized it. The verse is 1 Chronicles 4:10
Wait for it……………
“Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain!” And God
granted what he asked.”
This verse got me thinking about this person named Jabez. Almost all agree on the meaning of the name Jabez. His name stands for pain, conceive in pain, or sorrowful. There is so much to discover about the life and family of Jabez. But understanding the meaning of his name made me more understanding of his prayer in 1 Chronicles 4:10. In his life that was “conceive in pain,” he was still pursuing the “God of Israel”. Instead of blaming the God of Israel and wanting nothing to do with Him, Jabez reached out to the only true God for relief, for blessings.
Am I reaching out, stretching out to the only true hope for my life and this world? The God of Israel, our Lord Jesus Christ, and my Helper and Comforter, the Holy Spirit?
Pain/disappointments can make you run from God or run towards God.
