Dear LifeSpring Family
Dorothy and I were at a Weekend Getaway recently. In the relational oneness session, I was reminded of how I should be communicating with Dorothy and others around me. It reviewed the types of communication in a quadratic table.
- Top left quadrant – loving, but not clear
“Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbors, for we are all members of one body.” Ephesians 4:25 n(NIV) - Top right quadrant – loving and clear
“speaking the truth in love …” Ephesians 4:15 (NIV) - Bottom left quadrant – not loving, not clear
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as it is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29 (ESV) - Bottom right quadrant – clear, but not loving
“If I speak with the eloquence of men and of angels but do not have love, I become no more than blaring brass or crashing cymbals.”
1 Corinthians 13:1 (Phillipes)
The Holy Spirit is convicting me to move from quadrant 4 – clear, but not loving to quadrant 2 – loving and clear in how I communicate to Dorothy and others around me.
How about you? Do you need to grow in clarity or in expressing love or both in the way you communicate with others?
“Love without truth isn’t reality – it’s sentimentality. And truth without love isn’t sustainable – it’s terminal.” – Ann Voskamp
