Every highschooler hears this question almost weekly; in fact, they probably know it by heart. The question and all its variations boil down to “What are you going to do after high school?”
And for at least 50% of us (I’m making a wild guess here), the answer is “I dunno.” You might get a few speculations, but no one is completely sure of the area in which they will work or study. Some of us, myself included, have spent countless hours agonizing over what programs to apply to, what college/university to study at, and what job to pursue.
A verse that has spoken to me about this is Proverbs 14:23:
“In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.”
My initial reaction to this was “Great. But how MUCH profit?”
Don’t get me wrong, it’s wise to check the average salary as well as the job description of any occupation you wish to pursue in order to have a good grasp of what you will be getting into.
However, sometimes we can overthink and over analyze something like this and never decide anything. We can talk all we like about the pros and cons of each choice, but it’s worthless unless we take action.
There really is no perfect job out there, and at the end of the day, a job is better than no job.
