I just celebrated Dorothy’s 60th birthday and was so thankful to God for His provision, protection, and blessing upon Dorothy’s life.
A day later, I walked over to make payment to the two teenage boys who mow our lawn. Their mother answered the door and I was a little startled. I apologized for waking her up from her afternoon nap. But her response totally caught me off guard. “I am not doing well, Jerry. I was diagnosed with cancer, had surgery, and just completed my first round of chemotherapy. I thought you were the community nurse scheduled to attend to me. My first round of chemotherapy has not gone well.” All these developments occurred in a span of two weeks. Two weeks ago, we were laughing and having a lively conversation as neighbors and about her boys doing a good job of mowing my lawn.
“…………… the LORD establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9”
I was making plans for Dorothy and my future; that between 60 and 70 years old, we can now “invest” in and pamper ourselves a little such as travel more, eat at more exotic restaurants, and experience adventures. But in our conversation with our neighbor, the Lord reminded us that while it is good to plan, we need to hold our plans loosely in our hands and submit them to The Cross.
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand. Proverbs 19:21.”
Please pray for my neighbor.
