The world likes to tell us what is “normal”. Whether it is the pristine condition of a home that holds a family of six or the highlight reel of someone’s third vacation of the year on your feed, the career growth expectations or the unwritten agenda for achieving certain milestones by a certain age, the world tells us that life is all about being on top and success is determined by how much you have achieved and how much you get back from the work that you do.
What the world sees as “normal” is not what is normal in the kingdom of God. Where the world tells us to GO, GO, GO, GO, GO (!), God tells us to stop and rest.
“Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.”
– Hebrews 4:1
Where the world trains us to be efficient and value critical thinking above all else, God tells us to do the unthinkable; things no one would ever do because it doesn’t make sense.
“On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city [Jericho] seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times.”
– Joshua 6:15
In a world that is transactional, God calls us to love unconditionally, just as He loves us.
What is your normal?
