Dear LifeSpring Family,
I have been listening to the Holy Spirit and thinking about Romans 1:17:
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
The question that comes to my mind is that “Am I living by faith?”
Being in the life cycle that I am currently in sometimes does not require much faith. The kids are grown and do not require any financial assistance. Our lifestyle does not require significant financial resources. The years of disciplined approach toward spiritual, physical, relational, and financial stewardship has placed me in a comfortable state.
I used to remember when my life required faith to move forward. From buying our first home to starting a family. Sometimes, it required tremendous faith. Like leaving one job in Toronto to go overseas for another in South East Asia or leaving a career in Singapore to go into full-time ministry.
Is this what the writer of Romans was talking about in Romans 1:17? Then I noticed the beginning of the verse.
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith,
“For in it” and I asked in what? That brings us to Romans 1:16. I know most of you know this familiar verse.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
The question that God is asking me is, “Am I living from faith for faith when it comes to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ?” Am I willing to give up my right/comfortable state spiritually, physically, relationally, and financially? And allow the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes to flow in and through me to others? Am I willing to live by faith? As it is written, the righteous shall live by faith.
How about you?
Blessings,
Jerry
