The True Vine Continued…

The True Vine Continued…

A while back I mentioned that I’ve been studying and reading/listening to all of the books and sermons and information I can find about The True Vine and The Branches.

Beth Moore’s Chasing Vines was a serious game-changer for me.

I’d like to share one of the biggest ah-ha moments with you!

As many of you might remember, Jesus tells his disciples in John 15 that he is the True Vine, his Father is the Vinedresser and that they (along with us as his followers) are the Branches. The interconnectedness between all three of those parts is undeniable and, when done well and through abiding, bear much fruit that gives glory to the Father.

When I preached about this we focused on the humility of Christ that is seen through him being the vine… although the vine itself doesn’t bear fruit (the branches do) and although the glory goes to the Vinedresser Father (not to the vine), it would be entirely impossible for any of this to take place without the vine who is Jesus.

Beth Moore BLEW my very nerdy mind when she outlined more about the Vine.

The people of Israel had been referred to throughout Scripture as a vine. A vine that had been planted by God; a vine that had been transplanted and taken out of Egypt.

The fact that Jesus later says that HE is the vine, he was ultimately saying that no longer are the people of God to gather in a land or to a place, rather, that they are to abide in Jesus the Person.

The God of the Universe who created each of us in their own image… knew that people would need a Person to cling to rather than a place or a land. God knows how much more it means to be seen and known and held by a Saviour who loves us, rather than finding our way back to a land we love.

As we continue the journey of abiding, may we all be comforted and encouraged that The True Vine is Jesus. God and Man in One, who loves each of us more than we could imagine.

May we draw near and abide and grow in our relationship with God and may it produce beautiful fruit that brings glory to God!
