“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.”
– Romans 12: 4-6a
Each of us have different gifts and functions within the church, like this passage states, and each of us also have a unique way of bringing the glory of God into that role. This means that although there may be many people who serve beside you, each of you are unique in how you serve and how others can see God through you. Sometimes we can feel like there are a million people who could do the job better, but God works uniquely through you into the lives of many.
Paul continues to say,
“If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
– Romans 12:6b-8
There are many ways to volunteer in the church that are not necessarily even in a ministry! We love and appreciate those that serve in our kids, youth, worship, intercession, prophetic, hope, refugee, and family ministries, but we also value those who are called to rest and be poured into in this season. Those in this place might not feel like they are doing anything, but choosing to come to church requires you to voluntarily give up a part of your Sunday, and when we tithe, we voluntarily give a portion of our treasures on earth to the king.
When we celebrate our volunteers this Sunday for Volunteer Appreciation, we are not only celebrating those who volunteer their talents to serve in our ministries, but also those who volunteer their time to come to church and their treasure whenever they tithe. We are celebrating each member of the body and all of LifeSpring as a family. ♥
